The governorship election in Edo State is almost coming to an end, and soon, residents and citizens of the state will get to know their new governor.
After hours of vote casting, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally commenced uploading the results from the polls onto its Result Viewing Portal.
As we speak, 205 results out of 4,519 polling units where elections were conducted in the state have been uploaded to the portal by INEC.
This latest development reflects the electoral body’s commitment to keep to its word.
The Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, had earlier told voters that the ongoing governorship election results will be transmitted electronically.
Network Issue
According to Onuoha, only poor network can stop the electronic transmission of results.
Onuoha spoke during an interview with Arise Television on Saturday.
“You know that we have 4,519 pulling units across the 18 local governments, and so far we have deployed 4,622 BVAS to the various local governments. And we also have a backup of 660 BVAS.

“We have trained the operators for the BVAS. They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters, to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level, that pulling unit.
“After that, then the voters will now start voting. At the end of the day, they will count the results, and it will be uploaded to our IReV.
“That is the state we are now. To be rest assured that we’ll conduct an election that we can call our own,” he stated.
When asked if all election results would be transmitted electronically, Onuoha confirmed, “Yes, unless there is no network in that place. If not, it will. We will transmit it.”
