Why NAFDAC Raided Supermarkets In Abuja

NAFDAC swung into action in some parts of Abuja to rescue inhabitants from future damage by counterfeit products.

Officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Control – NAFDAC recently carried out raids on popular supermarkets.

The raids were done in the Wuse 2 and Gwarinpa area of Abuja, uncovering counterfeit products on display.

Also, the enforcement team targeted markets in Garki, Wuse, Utako, Kugbo, Nyanya and Mararaba, seizing counterfeit cosmetics and drugs.

A statement from the agency says during the operation, counterfeit cosmetics were discovered and seized at Sahad Stores, H-Medix and various markets while fake drugs were confiscated at the Utako market.

Counterfeit NIVEA products, cosmetics, Jik bleach, Harpic toilet cleaner, and Airwick room freshener were all confiscated.

The total value of the seized goods amounted to ₦50 million, with fake NIVEA products alone valued at ₦45 million.

Embugushiki-Musa Godiya, Head of Investigation and Enforcement/Federal Taskforce, FCT, Abuja, expressed concern over the sale of substandard products.

He sighted an example of counterfeit NIVEA cream which was being sold at higher prices than the approved products.

Godiya emphasized the health risks posed by such counterfeit goods, including the potential for cancer, kidney damage, and skin rashes.

Oyo State: Gunmen Kidnap RCCG Pastor, Others

Oyo state of Nigeria has been thrown into disarray as gunmen carried out a gruesome and disturbing operation.

Passengers of a 14-seater bus including a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Olugbenga Olawore, have been kidnapped in the state.

The cleric and other passengers were reportedly abducted on Friday night in the Maya axis of Lanlate-Eruwa Road.

This happened when the cleric was returning from papo town, where he had gone to fine-tune burial arrangements for his mother.

SP Adewale Osifeso, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the abduction to journalists on Saturday.

“Some of the rescued victims are assisting with useful leads that can help the investigation.

As we speak, the NLC has set forth a list of seven critical demands before the Federal Government.

It highlights the urgent need for a new minimum wage among other significant changes.

The announcement comes at a time of heightened anticipation, spiced with expectations that President Bola Tinubu may announce the proposed new wage standards during the celebrations.

NCL’s Demand

Key among the NLC’s demands is the establishment of state and local government police forces.

This aims at addressing the escalating insecurity challenges across the nation.

Furthermore, the NLC insists that the new minimum wage, once ratified, must be uniformly implemented across all states, local governments, and the organised private sector.

This unified approach is deemed essential to ensure fairness and alleviate economic disparities across different regions and sectors.

This year’s Workers’ Day is particularly significant, as it follows a tentative agreement by organised labour to set the new minimum wage at 615,000 Naira per month.

This figure was determined prior to the recent increases in electricity tariffs by the Federal Government, which has added to the cost-of-living pressures faced by Nigerian workers.

Niger State: How Bandits Killed 6 Soldiers, Kidnapped Captain

Bandits are ravaging different communities in Nigeria and soldiers in Niger State have become the most recent victims.

Of a truth, the security situation in Nigeria seems to be worsening by the day. Sadly, even the officials of the Nigerian Army appear to be helpless in this case.

In fact, they are also bearing the consequences of the menace which has plagued Nigeria for over a decade.

Nigerians are still mourning the death of some students at the Plateau State University and now, six Nigerian soldiers have been gunned down by bandits.

The sad incident happened at Roro, Karaga and Rumace communities, Bassa Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The soldiers were ambushed and killed on Friday night and a captain was also said to have been abducted during the incident.

Distress Call

According to reports, the soldiers had left their camps at Allawa and Erena to respond to a distress call when the armed bandits ambushed them at Roro village.

The bandits were also said to have killed a hunter and two farmers.

Also, they burnt houses, food banks and motorcycles.

Residents stated that the incident happened around 9:00 p.m. on Friday and lasted for hours.

“Six soldiers lost their lives and one volunteer hunter,” one of the residents said.

Another source, Mustapha Bassa, said the bandits, who rode on motorcycle were shooting sporadically as they moved to the communities.

All Hands On Deck

Also, the Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier-General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

According to the commissioner, the Niger state government is doing its best to bring the bandits to book.

He said: “All hands are on deck to bring the perpetrators to face the law.

“Government, on her own, is doing everything possible to end the insecurity issues.

“Additionally, the government will stand by the bereaved and share their grief as well as support them, now and in the long term”.

This sad incident comes a month after at least 17 senior military officers, including 13 soldiers, two majors and one captain, from the 181 Amphibious Battalion were killed in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The slain sliders and army officers were deployed on a peace-keeping mission to quell a community clash in the areas.
