
The Lagos State Government has taken bold steps to modernise its public service by training over 23,000 civil servants and raising the minimum wage to ₦85,000.

Reform Milestone Announced
During the 2025 ministerial briefing marking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term anniversary, Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, outlined the government’s focus on human capital development, industrial harmony, and service efficiency.
Skills And Leadership Development
Between May 2022 and December 2024, the government organised 185 targeted training sessions, enrolling more than 23,420 civil servants to strengthen leadership, efficiency, and digital competence.
Study Leave And Global Exposure
Additionally, it granted study leave to over 8,000 officers, sent 564 to professional conferences, and selected 25 for the prestigious AIG Public Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford.

Public-Private Sector Collaboration
Furthermore, the state launched a Public-Private Sector Exchange Programme and assigned 50 officers to promote collaboration between government institutions and private organisations.
Lagos Minimum Wage Increase
In January 2024, the government boosted workers’ financial wellbeing by awarding a ₦35,000 wage increase, raising the minimum wage to ₦71,750.
Later, in October, it reviewed the figure to ₦85,000 and began implementation in November.
Health Sector Support
In the health sector, the administration provided medical residency training funds, paid rural allowances to primary health workers, and implemented revised CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures.
Restructuring And Redundancy Package
In addition, as part of a major restructuring, the government approved a comprehensive redundancy package for 391 disengaged employees of the Lagos State Water Corporation.

Ultimately, “these reforms demonstrate our commitment to building a capable, ethical, and performance-driven workforce,” Ayantayo stated, reinforcing Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision for public service excellence in Lagos.
