Lagos has been officially announced as the host city for the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), placing Nigeria once again at the heart of the continent’s entertainment and creative scene.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting between Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and representatives of the African Union and the AFRIMA International Committee.
During the meeting, the governor expressed the state’s readiness to welcome the prestigious event, stating that it aligns with the government’s THEMES agenda, particularly in the areas of tourism, entertainment, and youth development.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as Africa’s cultural and creative capital, pointing to the massive investments his administration has made in infrastructure, talent development, and the arts sector.
Angela Martins, Head of Culture and Acting Director for Social Development, Culture and Sport at the African Union Commission, praised Lagos for its commitment to supporting creative expression across Africa.
She highlighted the AU’s strong partnership with AFRIMA, noting that the event promotes African unity, values, and talent in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
AFRIMA President and Executive Producer, Mike Dada, also commended the Lagos State Government for its continuous support of the music and creative industry.
He revealed that AFRIMA 2025 is expected to host over 1,600 nominees, involve more than 1,100 production crew members, and reach a global audience of over 400 million viewers.
He added that the awards would not only boost the visibility of African music but also bring significant economic and tourism benefits to Lagos and Nigeria at large.
The official hosting certificate will be presented to Lagos State on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at an event organised by the African Union and the AFRIMA committee.
