When former President Olusegun Obasanjo said that education is not for the poor, many people failed to understand what he meant.
As a matter of fact, many people knocked the former president for making such a statement.
However, as time went by, Nigerians began to understand exactly what Obasanjo was talking about.
To make matters worse, Nigerians have found themselves battling a hardship like never before.
This hardship, occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal policy of President Bola Tinubu has seen a high in the price of everything.
Yes, everything, education inclusive.
Let us take a moment to pity parents in Lagos.
It is not easy for them.
Special pity for those who have more than one child.
You may not understand what these people are going through.
But not to worry, in a minute, you will understand what we are talking about.
Parents who have children in boarding schools have been given another burden to bear by the state government.
From paying 35,000 Naira for boarding fees, parents will now have to pay a whopping 100,000 Naira per term.
This decision was reached by Lagos State Government and it applies to all secondary schools across the state.
A letter was issued to all boarding school principals.
That letter was signed by the Director, Basic Education Services, Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Olufemi Asaolu.
Part of the letter reads: “I have the directive of the Honourable Commissioner to inform all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State that the State Government has approved the review of the Boarding fee payable in all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State. The newly approved fee is 100,000 Naira only.”

Now you understand why we pity parents in Lagos?
What now becomes of parents who have three to four children.
Crime rate will rise.
Yes, imagine that the number of crimes increased due to the hardship and hunger rocking the country.
That could just be a tip of the iceberg.
