Kylian Mbappe has been excluded from the France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Israel and Italy.
This will be the second consecutive France squad without the national team captain, following his absence in the October matches against Israel and Belgium.
In October, Mbappe was excluded to help him recover from a minor thigh injury he sustained while playing for Real Madrid.
However, controversy arose when he returned to play for Real just days later, before France’s matches had taken place.
During France’s 4-1 win over Israel in Budapest and their 2-1 victory in Belgium, Mbappe spent his time on holiday in Stockholm, Sweden during which time he was accused of rape.
The player dismissed the alleged report as “fake news,” and his lawyer indicated that legal action for defamation would be pursued.
A Swedish prosecutor later confirmed that an investigation had been opened, though Kylian Mbappe was not mentioned by name.
Since then, the former Paris Saint-Germain forward has played four times for Real Madrid, scoring one goal.
