Afrobeats sensation and songwriter, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the emotional weight behind his recent song, Al-Jannah.
In a heartfelt podcast interview, the singer reflected on the personal tragedies that inspired the tribute track.
He reveals that the song is a dedication to the loved ones he and his family have lost over the years.
“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” Kizz Daniel shared.
He explained that Al-Jannah which means “paradise” in Arabic — was born out of a desire to honour not just one person, but multiple significant losses he’s endured.
“We’ve lost people in the past. We lost our son in 2021. I lost my dad in 2015, my wife lost her mum in 2024, and I also lost my stepmother. We’ve lost a whole lot of people,” he said.
The singer noted that the song isn’t just a personal tribute, but a universal message for anyone grieving.
“I wanted to make a song for everyone, not just one person. It’s about our loved ones we’ve lost in this journey of life. I think I was able to accomplish that by using the word ‘friend’ in the song,” he added.
