David Beckham has finally been awarded a knighthood, marking a major moment in his journey from football legend to worldwide cultural figure.
The honour came as part of King Charles III’s 2025 Birthday Honours list and is seen as a reward for his work in sports, fashion, business, and charity over the years.
Beckham is known around the world not just for his incredible football career, but also for the way he built his image beyond the pitch.
From his early days at Manchester United to winning titles in Spain, France, and the United States, Beckham became more than an athlete he became a brand.
Over the years, he has used that fame to support good causes and promote British culture globally.
After retiring from football, Beckham stayed active in the sports world as co-owner of Inter Miami FC in the United States.
He also spent time working with UNICEF, launching the David Beckham UNICEF Fund to support children across the globe.
In 2024, he was made an ambassador for King Charles’s Foundation, focusing on education, the environment, and youth support.
His growing friendship with the King even led to fun public moments, such as them sharing beekeeping tips at a royal garden show.
The knighthood means Beckham will now be called “Sir David Beckham,” while his wife, Victoria, will become “Lady Beckham.”
It comes more than 20 years after he received the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 2003.
With this new title, Beckham joins a special group of British sports legends who have been officially recognised for their service to the country.
The investiture ceremony, where he will officially receive the title, is expected to take place later this year.
