Veteran Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Chatta, has stated that he has no interest in winning the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), despite his recent nomination at the prestigious ceremony.
Ibrahim Chatta is widely respected for his versatility and long-standing contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
He was nominated in the Best Lead Actor category for his performance in the movie, House of Gaa.
The award went to fellow actor Femi Adebayo for his role in Seven Doors.
He made the statement during a recent appearance on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, hosted by comedian Isbae U.
Also, Ibrahim Chatta revealed that he was unbothered by the outcome of the award and expressed a clear lack of enthusiasm for AMVCA accolades.
When Isbae U teased: “Will you say you are not rated at your job? When you get home, pray that you should win AMVCA too,” Ibrahim Chatta calmly responded, “I’m not interested”.
His blunt statement comes amid growing conversations in the Nigerian entertainment industry about how recognition is given and whether the current award systems truly reflect the depth of talent and diversity in Nollywood.
The 11th edition of the AMVCA, held in Lagos on Saturday night, celebrated outstanding achievements in African film and television.
Ibrahim Chatta’s performance was acknowledged through his nomination, his comments suggest a broader dissatisfaction with what some see as a pattern of underappreciation for certain actors within the industry.
