Harry Kane has been told why 126 caps and another record with England is achievable, with the prolific striker having a “couple of years” left in him.
Bayern Munich star Kane, who is captain of his country, reached 100 appearances for the Three Lions when starting the UEFA Nations League clash with Finland.
He went on to register two goals in that contest, taking his historic haul in that department to 68 and counting.
Kane, at 31 years of age, has stated a desire to emulate the efforts of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by playing on well into his 30s.
He may be denied that opportunity, as alternative options to fill the No.9 post emerge, but for now he is being backed to lead the line and chase down another entry in the history books.
What Shearer Said
Former England frontman Alan Shearer has told Betfair of legendary former goalkeeper Peter Shilton being in danger of losing his spot at No.1 on the Three Lions’ all-time appearance list:
“Harry Kane is a phenomenal footballer and an incredible goalscorer.
“I know that feeling that he has, and I know that his thirst, desire, and hunger to get out and score goals is still there.
“There were question marks against him at the Euros, and he said himself that he didn’t perform the way he wanted, and I don’t think he was the only one, so when people are asking questions, you as an individual have the opportunity to put that right.
“What better way to do that than to score goals like he has done for the vast majority of his career and to do so again on his 100th cap.
“He’s England’s greatest goalscorer and it wouldn’t surprise me if he went on and became the record appearance holder and broke Peter Shilton’s record too.
“Yes, he’ll have to stay around for another couple of years to do that but when he’s performing, and, when he’s got pace in and around him like England have had in the last two games, then he’s an incredible player to have and he’ll continue to score goals.”

Kane has been part of the England set-up since 2015, when he found the target on debut against Lithuania.
He has skippered the Three Lions on more than 70 occasions and has helped them to back-to-back European Championship finals – with there still more for him to achieve as he seeks to land elusive major silverware with club and country.
