Just In: UNILAG staff to resume work, Wednesday 6

The management of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka has directed that principal staff on CONTISS 13 and above should resume alongside their personal assistants on Wednesday 6th of May, 2020.

This according to the Registrar of the institution, Oladejo Azeez, Esq was based on the announcement of the President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR to ease the lockdown measures earlier taken to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the FCT, Lagos and Ogun States.

In a statement signed by the Registrar, the designated staff are to resume only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The release read: “The Management of the University of Lagos at its meeting held on Monday, May 4, 2020, deliberated on the resumption of members of staff to duty following the directive of the President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR on the gradual easing of the lockdown measures earlier taken to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the FCT, Lagos and Ogun States.

“Management approved that Principal Officers, Provost and Deans, Heads of Department/Unit, Directors and Senior members of staff on CONTISS 13 and above including their Personal Assistants should resume duty on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. It was also approved that one Administrative Assistant should be on ground to clean each of the offices of the officials indicated above.

“Management resolved that offices should open three times in a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in line with the Policy of the Federal Government to revive the economy and that the working hours shall be 9.00 a.m to 2.00 p.m to allow members of staff return to their houses before the commencement of the overnight curfew from 8.00 p.m to 6.00 a.m.

“Members of staff resident in Ogun State are to stay away from work until the end of the total lockdown imposed by the state to curtail the spread of COVID-19. Academic staff who desire to come to the campus can do so in spite of the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“Management implored members of staff to continue to adhere strictly to the precautionary measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which include regular washing of hands with soap and water, cleaning of hands with hand sanitizers, social distancing, wearing of nose mask, avoidance of large gathering and coughing/sneezing etiquette.

“Meanwhile, staff on essential services in the Bursary Department, Works and Physical Planning (Service Area), Student Records Office, Security, Faculty and Hostel Porters and the Unilag Media should continue to be at their duty posts. Other categories of staff should await further announcement on resumption.
