160 stranded Nigerians depart U.S. for Abuja

No fewer than 160 Nigerians who have been stranded in the United States of America, following the raving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have arrived Nigeria through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

The Ethiopian Airlines aircraft departed for Abuja from Newark (EWR) Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on Saturday 9th May 2020 by 9.15pm

The aircraft, a 270 passenger capacity Boeing 787 flight Number ET 509 with Registration ET-AOQ , arrived the country’s federal capital territory at midday on Sunday, May 10, 2020 . The evacuees bought their individual tickets.

After the airport profiling and formalities, the evacuees were taken to a secure location for isolation in five luxurious buses and two normal buses which were on ground to ensure the passengers have limited contact with people as part of the guidelines of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19

Recall that the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York, on behalf of the Nigerian Missions in United States of America, confirmed the one-way flight being arranged for the evacuation of stranded Nigerian nationals in the USA to Abuja on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

According to the Consulate, “All travelers are expected to fly economy class at the projected cost between $1,300 and $1,700 per adult, with the usual provision of appropriate percentage reductions for children and infants for the one-way economy ticket.”
