The petrol tanker explosion which claimed the lives of over 150 persons with over 50 hospitalised is one accident that the Federal Government is not willing to overlook.
As we speak, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) said it has launched an investigation to uncover the cause of the accident.

It was on Wednesday morning, at about 12 am that the unfortunate incident happened.
The accident happened at Majia town, Taura Local Government Area of the state.
The Explosion
Furthermore, the petrol tanker, which was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control and crashed, spilling its contents.
Residents saw the accident as an opportunity to get the scarce product, overlooking the consequences of their act.
Sadly, the tanker exploded, killing many.
However, the commencement of the investigation was made known in a statement by Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB.
The Investigation
Meanwhile, the agency said that in line with its mandate of investigating all modes of transportation serious incidents and accidents, it has sent its investigators to the scene of the accident for investigation purposes.
According to Oladeji, the team would assess the circumstances surrounding the crash and the explosion.

This will enable them to identify causal factors and provide safety recommendations aimed at preventing future occurrences.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this devastating accident.
The NSIB is committed to uncovering the cause of the explosion and ensuring that safety lessons are learned,” she said.
She emphasised that further updates on the investigation would be communicated to the public as it’s team gathers and analyses evidence from the scene.
She also reminded the citizens of the grave danger of scooping fuel during tanker accident.
