The opening CONCACAF Champions Cup match between Inter Miami and Sporting Kansas City, originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2025, has been postponed by 24 hours due to a powerful winter storm expected to hit Kansas City.
The decision was made to prioritize player and fan safety.
According to a statement from CONCACAF, the first leg game at Children’s Mercy Park will now take place on Wednesday, February, 19, 2025, at 7pm.
The postponement was made in close coordination with the two participating clubs and local authorities.
CONCACAF explained that the decision was necessary due to “adverse weather conditions expected to impact the Kansas City metropolitan area in the next 24 hours, including significant snow accumulation.”
The organisation emphasised that player and fan safety was the top priority.
Weather forecasts predict that Kansas City can expect up to 10 inches of snow on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with record-low temperatures expected later in the week.
The postponement will allow the teams to play the match in safer conditions.
