The date for their exit has been fixed for January 3rd, 2020, but they will embark on terminal leave on December 3rd, 2020.

Soldiers who have been earmarked for exits include those who have attained retirement age, and medically challenged soldiers who were injured in the line of duty.

When the application for disengagement was received earlier, speculation made the rounds that it was because of poor welfare conditions of the soldiers during their fight against insurgency and banditry in the country.

But the military authorities squashed the rumours and said it was appropriate for the soldiers to apply for discharge on medical grounds.
