Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has expressed his concerns regarding the alleged rise of “fake miracles” in some Nigerian churches, calling on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the federal government to take action.
In a social media post on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Ogbonna condemned the use of God’s name for deceit, describing it as a betrayal of the Christian faith.
He also urged Christians to be wary of social media trends that mock or disrespect their religion.
IK’s Post
“It is heartbreaking to see pastors faking miracles to deceive and exploit vulnerable people.
‘These acts stain the true essence of Christianity, turning faith into a spectacle for selfish gain. The consequences? Broken trust, lost lives, and faith manipulated for profit,” Ogbonna wrote.
He urged CAN and the government to regulate and hold such religious leaders accountable, emphasising that people should not use Christianity for fraud or manipulation.
The actor’s post followed the circulation of a controversial video featuring members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, where several bizarre testimonies surfaced.
In one testimony, an elderly woman claimed that four armed men robbed her, but she miraculously took control of their guns by declaring, “I’m a chosen.”
Other testimonies included a man stating that a lion carried him into the air to rescue him from kidnappers, and another claiming to have survived machete attacks and gunshots without any injuries.
Ogbonna’s remarks highlight growing concerns about the authenticity of some religious practices and the impact they may have on public perception of Christianity.
