Nigerian music sensation, Tems, says she is a dedicated fan of American rap icon, Lil Wayne.
In a recent interview on The Cruz Show, Tems shared her passion for rap music and recounted fond memories of emulating Lil Wayne in her youth.
“My love for hip-hop started when my older brother introduced me to rap,” she said.
She recalls how he often listened to hip-hop tracks that later shaped her musical style.
Tems expressed admiration for Lil Wayne’s songs like Mrs. Officer, Mr. Carter, Comfortable, and Hustler Musik.
“I used to pretend to be Lil Wayne when I was younger,” she admitted on the podcast.
She laughs about her early days of “cosplaying” as a rapper, though she jokingly referred to her rap voice as “a little cringy”.
The Oscar-nominated singer also revealed she hasn’t yet met Lil Wayne but hopes to connect with him soon.
Also, her love for rap shines through in her debut album Born In The Wild, where she crafted a rap-influenced track called T Unit.
Also, she collaborated with American rap heavyweight J. Cole on Free Fall, merging her unique style with his lyricism.

Over her career, Tems has joined forces with several renowned rappers, including Future on their Grammy-winning single Wait For U, which also featured Drake.
