The story of Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Chatta, has once again highlighted how not having money could truncate the destiny of a young Nigerian child.
He says he lost a child because he couldn’t afford to pay the hospital bills when the child was ill.
It is a heartbreaking story that now underscores the need for the government and health insurance companies to establish laws that would save more lives in times of challenges.
In an emotional conversation captured behind the scenes of a movie set, Ibrahim Chatta opened up to crew members about the painful experience that shaped part of his life.
The video published by Abiola Orisile Events & Parties on YouTube showed the actor visibly moved as he recounted the ordeal.
According to Ibrahim Chatta, the child was admitted to a hospital located in the Iddo area of Lagos. Despite his desperate attempts to raise the necessary funds, help didn’t come in time.
He said he walked long distances, including from Ijora Badia to Makoko, all in efforts to save the child.
Also, he tried to gather money for the medical expenses, but sadly, all his efforts were in vain.
In a chilling detail, he revealed that the baby was buried in an old wooden Coca-Cola crate. This was due to their inability to afford a proper coffin.
He said: “Malik is not my firstborn. My first child was a baby girl. I lost her because I couldn’t pay hospital bills. She was taken to a hospital in the Iddo area of Lagos. I trekked from Ijora Badia to Makoko in search of help, but I didn’t find any until she passed. She was buried in the old wooden crate of Coke.”
The tragic story has stirred emotional reactions across social media.
