Spain star Jenni Hermoso slammed Brazil for their tactics as the Selecao beat them 4-2 to reach the Olympics final.
Brazil pulled off a massive upset in the Olympic games on Tuesday as they thrashed reigning world champions Spain 4-2 to book their berth in the gold medal clash against the United States women’s national team.
Irene Pareders, Gabrielle Portilho, Adriana da Silva and Kerolin were on target to secure a place in the final for the Selecao, with an own goal from Duda Sampaio and a stoppage-time strike from Salma Paralluelo amounting to nothing more than consolation efforts for Spain.
Spain captain Hermoso was furious after her team’s semi-final loss as she accused the Brazilians of playing rough and time-wasting.
However, the 34-year-old forward also admitted that Spain did commit some mistakes and did not play their natural game.
Speaking to reporters after the match, the experienced striker said: “We conceded four goals to a team that, for me, doesn’t play football.
“But at the end of the day, what counts are the goals.
“They study us, they know how to ‘hit’ us, play behind our backs.
“For me, it’s not football.
“I don’t like that kind of football.
“Obviously, they gain minutes, they make you waste time and, for them, that was worth it.
“They’re in the final and we’re going for the bronze.
“I think it was our mistake.
“We didn’t play our football.
“I liked our second half, but it was difficult with 4-2 to the opponent.”
