The rancour between the Governor of Edo State and his deputy appears not to have ended. 

Indeed, signs of its existence are showing again after the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the governorship election in the state.

Now, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, is mocking the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, over the result of the just concluded governorship election in the state.

"He Couldn’t Win His LG, I Feel Vindicated"- Shaibu Mocks Obaseki

Shaibu said he felt vindicated after Obaseki lost his local government area to the APC.

He claims he holds no grudge against the outgoing governor.

Shaibu made the remarks while sharing his opinion on the outcome of the 2024 governorship election.

He was in a chat with Arise TV on Monday, September 23, 2024.

The deputy governor noted that Obaseki had never won an election.

Also, he claimed that he had been the one helping obaseki achieve the victories he had recorded so far.

Additionally, he mentioned that the All Progressives Congress’s victory vindicated him against those who claimed he couldn’t win the election.

“I feel vindicated; even the governor couldn’t win his local government. I won my unit, ward, and local government.

“Where are the governor’s results? He has never won; we always assisted him,” he stated.

However, he urged Obaseki to apologise to the people of the state.

He said:“What is left now is for him to go back and start begging and apologising to the people of Edo State.

“And he has a lot of them that he needs to go and apologise to”.

On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the APC Senator, Monday Okpebholo as the governor-elect of the state.

The governorship position was keenly contended by Okpebholo, Asue Ighodalo of PDP and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
