The Ijaw National Congress and the Northern Comrade Movement of Nigeria have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reduce the current petrol pump price to ₦350 per litre.

Both groups emphasized that lowering the fuel price would alleviate economic pressures and help stabilize various sectors affected by the recent increases.

Furthermore, this request came in response to the recent price hikes by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, which had seen fuel prices rise to as high as ₦855, ₦918, and beyond, depending on the location.

The INC National Publicity Secretary, Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, in an interview expressed concern over the rising fuel costs.

“The maximum pump price should not exceed ₦350 per litre,” Oyakemeagbegha said..

“In addition, President Tinubu must take urgent steps to bring the price down to this level. The recent increase has caused widespread hardship across the nation.”

Similarly, the Secretary-General of the NCMN, Ahmad Ashir, highlighted the broader implications of the fuel price hike.

“The increase in fuel prices is not only worsening the economic situation but also exacerbating insecurity in northern Nigeria,” he said.

“Many youths involved in transportation are being forced out of business due to these high costs, which can lead them to engage in criminal activities as an alternative.

“We urge the President to reduce the fuel price to a level that is affordable for the masses. ₦350 per litre will be manageable for most Nigerians.”
