Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has announced that the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena will be named in honour of global Afrobeats sensation, Rema.

The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project in Benin City on Wednesday.

Rema was in Benin for his homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium.

However, he joined Governor Obaseki for the ceremony and laid the first block for the Edo Arena.

“It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena.

The arena will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ the governor shared in a statement on X shortly after the event.

Governor Obaseki explained that once completed, the arena will host a variety of events, including concerts and other large gatherings.

Also, he emphasised that the arena would draw more visitors to the state.

It will provide an opportunity for them to experience Edo’s rich culture.

Also, it will create employment opportunities for the youth.

Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, hails from Benin City.

Furthermore, he celebrates the legacy of the ancient Benin Empire through his music and performances.
