Recently, the 90-year-old legend enjoyed renewed fame when his 1983 song ‘Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche’ went viral after comedian and skit maker Brain Jotter used it in a video that captured the hearts of many.

This newfound popularity earned Ejeagha a special honor on Monday, September 2, 2024, when the Enugu State government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, named a street after him to celebrate his legacy.

During the inauguration of newly constructed roads, Abakpa Road was renamed after Gentleman Mike Ejeagha, who hails from Imezi Owa, Eziagu Local Government in Enugu State.

Governor Mbah personally visited Ejeagha’s home, where he was warmly welcomed by Ejeagha’s children, Emma Ejeagha and Elizabeth Ugwu (Nee Ejeagha).

They expressed their gratitude to the governor for fulfilling promises that had been made by previous administrations but never kept.

The street-naming ceremony was filled with joy and celebration, as Governor Mbah even joined in the viral ‘Gwo gwo gwo ngwo’ dance, much to the delight of the gathered residents.

The resurgence of interest in Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music began when Brain Jotter shared his video on Instagram on July 5, 2024.

The clip sparked a viral trend that introduced many new listeners to Ejeagha’s music, reminding the world of his incredible contributions to Igbo culture and music.
