Even with the abundance of gas in Nigeria, the power sector lost a total of N1. 8 billon yesterday, due to inadequate gas supply, along with other sectorial constraints.
The other constraints according to the Power Advisory Team, includes, lack of distribution infrastructure and transmission infrastructure.
This is coming even as the average energy sent by the 11 Distribution Companies, DISCOs, to households stood at 4, 092 Megawatts, MW, a decrease of 52.88MW recorded the previous day.
According to the Power Advisory Team, office of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, “On February 06 2020, average energy sent out was 4,092 MWH/Hour (down by 52.88 MW from the previous day).
“3,106 MW was not generated due to unavailability of gas. 137.8 MW was not generated due to unavailability of transmission infrastructure, while 298 MW was not generated due to high frequency resulting from unavailability of distribution infrastructure.
“150 MW was recorded as losses due to water management. The power sector lost an estimated N1,772,000,000 on February 06 2020 due to constraints from insufficient gas supply, distribution infrastructure and transmission infrastructure.
“The dominant constraint on February 06 2020 was due to unavailability of gas – constraining a total of 3,106 MW from being available on the grid.”
