Gabriel Martinelli is reportedly close to agreeing terms on a lucrative new Arsenal contract, with the Brazilian forward set to earn around £200,000 per week.
Martinelli, 21, has had a phenomenal growth at the Emirates over the last 18 months and has emerged as one of Mikel Arteta’s most influential players.
For months, the Gunners have been eager to reward the winger, who played three times for Brazil in the World Cup, with new terms, but they were unable to reach an agreement before the tournament.
However, a breakthrough in negotiations has now been made, and the two parties are said to be in “advanced talks” with the goal of reaching an agreement soon.
According to The Daily Mail, Martinelli’s current salary will be nearly tripled. The former Ituano youngster currently earns around £70,000 per week, but his new £200,000-per-week contract will put him on par with some of the club’s highest earners.
Although several clubs, including Barcelona and Liverpool, have been monitoring Martinelli’s situation in recent months, the forward is believed to have informed his advisors that he was more than happy at Arsenal and that staying at the club was a ‘priority’.
He even hinted last month that he was ready to commit his future to the club, saying that all he needed was a pen to seal the deal.
