While the government has, through the national petroleum regulator, increased the price of petrol, Nigerians are yet to come to terms with the situation. In fact, the hike in price is causing pains in different quarters.
In Delta State, there is widespread anger resulting in protests, as people call on the government to take quick action to fix the situation and ease their financial struggles.
On Wednesday, commercial tricycle operators, known as ‘Keke riders,’ and some aggrieved women and youths protested in the Warri and Effurun areas of Delta State.
Protest For Petrol Price Hike
They took to the streets to express their frustration over the scarcity of premium motor spirit and the recent petrol price hike.
By 9:00 A.M., hundreds of market women and Keke riders marched through major roads.
They called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene urgently and reverse the fuel price increase.
The protesters carried placards and chanted slogans like, “Tinubu, intervene now to alleviate commuters’ suffering” and “Tinubu, activate Warri and Kaduna refineries without further delay”.

Also, they voiced their hardship with signs reading: “We are suffering in silence, the fuel price hike is a killer”.
The demonstrators urged President Tinubu to act immediately to address the situation and provide relief to Nigerians.
Some marched from Deco Road towards Enerhen, highlighting the economic strain caused by the fuel price hike and scarcity.
Current Price Of Fuel
Most fuel stations along the Warri-Sapele Road were closed on Wednesday morning, and those open sold petrol for over ₦1,000 per litre.
This led to increased transport fares, adversely affecting commuters and interstate travelers.
Airport Junction in Effurun, a major transportation hub, was unusually quiet as travelers struggled to buy tickets and transporters faced difficulties in procuring petrol.
