A House of Representatives member, has stepped forward with a significant donation to aid flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State.

This support aims to address the aftermath of a recent devastating flood in the region.

Muktar Betara, the member representing Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya/Kusar Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has donated ₦100 million to flood victims in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

Recent reports confirm that 37 people have died, and over 400,000 have been displaced due to heavy rainfall that led to the collapse of the Alau Dam.

On Thursday, Betara, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress, made the donation to Governor Babagana Zulum during an on-the-spot assessment of the disaster in Maiduguri.

Furthermore, Betara expressed his sorrow over the deaths and the displacement of thousands of residents.

He praised Governor Zulum for his swift response to mitigate the effects of the tragedy.

Lawmaker Donates Funds To Borno Flood Victims

The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, offered his support to the flood victims.

He also promised that relevant institutions would be mobilized to aid in their rehabilitation.

Betara stated: “On behalf of myself, my family, and the people of Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya/Kusar Federal Constituency, I donate ₦100 million to support the affected people of Maiduguri.”

He continued: “Your Excellency, I extend my condolences to you, the state government, and all those affected by this unfortunate flood, which led to the untimely deaths of many beloved individuals.

“Thousands have been rendered homeless, and their livelihoods have been lost. May Allah grant solace to the departed souls and comfort us all.”

Betara also commended Governor Zulum and his cabinet for their efforts to support the affected individuals and for their previous interventions aimed at alleviating the impact of the flood.

As the National Assembly prepares to resume from its annual vacation, Betara pledged to highlight the borno flood impact.

He also assured that he would bring the disaster to the floor of the House as a matter of urgent public importance upon its return in the coming weeks.
