Flood has killed five people in the Potiskum town of Yobe State after a heavy rainfall that destroyed several houses and dislodged hundreds of residents who are now taking refuge at Kwata and Arikime Primary Schools within Potiskum Local Government Area.

The flood happened on Sunday evening shortly before the NIMET forecast that predicted consistent rainfall in some parts of Yobe and other states of the federation.

Information available to Punch by a source was that the rain washed houses away and rendered most of the occupants roofless and they had to be resettled in a temporal camp.

“Five people were killed in the rain. The rain started in the afternoon of Sunday and lasted well over three hours. The houses that were washed away are much. I can’t give accurate number because I didn’t count the houses. But some were completely destroyed along with their belongings. Some, the roofs were removed by the strong wind that accompanied the rain while several other houses were enmeshed in water,” a resident, Adamu Ibrahim, said.
