When Ed Sheeran joined Fireboy on the remix, ‘Peru’ soared to No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart, becoming a hit in over 20 countries.
In France, it reached No. 28, showing that Afrobeats music is loved all over the world.
‘Peru’ Global Success
Now, ‘Peru’ has achieved another big milestone a diamond certification in France. This is a special award given to songs that sell a huge number of copies.
This makes ‘Peru’ one of the few Nigerian songs to reach this level, joining hits like Oxlade’s ‘Kulosa’, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’, Burna Boy’s ‘On The Low’, and Rema’s ‘Calm Down’.
Fireboy’s journey with ‘Peru’ has been amazing. The song has over 450 million streams on Spotify, has earned a gold award in Denmark, gone 2X platinum in the UK, and earned a platinum award in the US.
It’s clear that ‘Peru’ wasn’t just a popular song it was a game-changer that brought Fireboy into the spotlight around the world.
The success of ‘Peru’ also helped Fireboy gain a BET nomination and a chance to perform at the 2022 BET Awards.
Since then, Fireboy’s career has continued to grow. His latest album, ‘Adedamola’, features exciting collaborations with big names like Lagbaja, Grammy nominee Seun Kuti, Lojay, and Grammy Album of the Year winner Jon Batiste.
