Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive on the declaration of curfew in three states of the federation, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have been officially lockdown.

Buhari while addressing Nigerians on the state of the nation has said that, “Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, I am directing the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, 30th March 2020.

“This restriction will also apply to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States.”

However, Ogun State opted out and shifted theirs to Friday, which according to the Governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun was to finalise the mechanisms for the distribution of relief materials and food items ahead of the total lockdown.

Meanwhile, Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, in a tweet said: “Abuja and Lagos are officially lockdown for two weeks.

“As stated by President in his last night national broadcast on #COVID19, this is a matter of life and death, especially if we look at the dreadful daily toll of deaths in Italy, France and Spain.”
