The Nigerian government has taken a bold step towards transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector with the launch of the National Electronic Extension Platform (NEEP).
Unveiled at the National Agricultural Research Extension Summit in Abuja, the digital platform is designed to enhance farmers’ access to real-time agricultural information.
At the National Agricultural Research Extension Summit in Abuja, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, highlighted how the platform directly addresses key agricultural challenges.
He stated: “Ensuring food security requires innovative solutions that enhance farmers’ productivity”.
Leveraging Technology For Farmers
To bridge the gap between farmers and expert knowledge, NEEP will provide real-time access to agricultural information.
Moreover, it will solve the longstanding issue of inadequate extension agents by equipping farmers with digital resources.
By leveraging technology, the government ensures that farming practices improve while also reducing risks associated with traditional extension services.

Driving Innovation
Meanwhile, the Director of the Federal Department of Agricultural Extension Service, Deola Tayo Lordbanjou, stressed the importance of translating research into practical solutions.
He pointed out that NEEP allowed farmers to seamlessly adopt modern technology, leading to better efficiency and higher yields.
Strengthening Collaboration
At the same time, the Permanent Secretary, Ogunbiyi Marcus, called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders.
He urged key players in the National Agricultural Research and Extension System (NARES) to integrate digital tools effectively into Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.

With NEEP in place, the government is actively redefining agricultural extension services.
By equipping farmers with the right knowledge and tools, Nigeria is moving towards a more productive and food-secure future.
