In a gesture of friendship and faith, the Federal Government of Nigeria has welcomed Jordan’s designation as a permanent pilgrimage destination for Nigerian Christians.

This move, according to officials, will not only strengthen diplomatic ties but also deepen cultural and religious exchanges between the two nations.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, extended his congratulations directly to his Jordanian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi—Jordan’s — on the occasion of Jordan’s Independence Day.

Foundation Of Mutual Respect

In a statement issued spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, issued on Sunday, Tuggar highlighted the strong and evolving partnership between Nigeria and Jordan.

He recalled that both countries established their diplomatic relationship on a foundation of mutual respect and shared values.

Tuggar emphasised: “Nigeria and Jordan have built a longstanding relationship grounded in cooperation, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to peace, stability, and economic development”.

Moreover, he applauded Jordan for taking a leading role in promoting interfaith harmony and advancing regional diplomacy.

He also recognised Jordan’s continued efforts in supporting humanitarian causes, especially in hosting refugees and advocating for a just resolution to the Palestinian question.

Jordan’s Destination As Permanent Pilgrimage

Tuggar noted that Jordan’s decision to permanently welcome Nigerian Christian pilgrims has further solidified ties between the nations.

He added: “We appreciate how Jordan has supported and facilitated smooth pilgrimage experiences for our citizens”.

As both nations explore greater collaboration in trade, agriculture, technology, and tourism, Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening this strategic partnership.

Finally, he congratulated the government and people of Jordan on their national anniversary and expressed optimism for even closer cooperation in the years ahead.
