A trending video showing part of the Dangote refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, on fire has begun to draw the attention of social media users.
The video surfaced on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, and has been shared by many users on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, heaps of black smoke from the burning area were visible from a part of the refinery.
It has been confirmed that part of the Dangote refinery was indeed on fire in the wee hours of Wednesday, however, details of the incident still remain sketchy.
A source who spoke to FIJ confirmed that the fire started at midnight due to a leakage.

According to the source: “It was a leakage on Pipe A13 that caused the fire. It started small: first, a burning cable before people started perceiving some smell. This was around midnight. But it has been put out.”
The source added that firefighters were only able to contain the fire around noon.
The fire outbreak in the refinery adds to the growing list of fire incidents recorded in Lagos State in recent times.
Recently, the headquarters of the Christ Embassy was up in flames.
This many fire incidents have left Nigerians with numerous questions and Lagosians with fear.
