Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), says it has impounded 33 commercial motorcycles plying AYA-Nyanya Expressway for traffic offences.

Mr Ikharo Attah, Chairman of the FCT Ministerial Task Team, Traffic Management, made the disclosure at a media interactive session, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Attah explained that commercial motorcycles were expected to work in the suburbs, adding that most of the motorcycle riders on the road were on high speed and against traffic rules.

“The misbehaviour of the commercial motorcyclists is reaching the roof top and it is high time we took a decisive action against them.

“Enforcement will begin on Monday along the Southern parkway linking Area 8 and the Goodluck Jonathan Expressway, among others,” Attah said.

Also speaking, Mr Dele Yaro, Deputy Director, FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Service, disclosed that no fewer than 300 persons had been arrested for offences ranging from answering or making phone calls while driving.

Yaro added that others were arrested for driving against the traffic, while 19 of them were discharged and acquitted.

He said five Magistrates had been deployed to the mobile courts for speedy dispensation of cases.

On his part, Abubakar Sani, Special Assistant on Media to the FCT Minister, reiterated commitment of the FCTA to make driving safe and pleasure experience in Abuja.

“We will ensure that people communing in the city meet their appointments and get their jobs done,” he said. (NAN)
