Mr. Michael Ango is the acting executive chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS).

He was visited by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).

During the significant visit, Mr. Ango pledged to create a more supportive environment for businesses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Ango explained that the success of revenue collection was closely tied to the health of the economy.

When businesses thrive, they generate more revenue.

However, when they struggle, it negatively affects tax collection.

To address this, Ango emphasised that his administration would prioritise making it easier to do business in the FCT.

He also stressed the importance of creating a positive atmosphere for businesses to grow.

How FCT-IRS Will Strengthen Business 

One of the key steps FCT-IRS plans to take is to boost its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

Ango shared that the service would actively work on improving market and plaza facilities.

This shows they are not just focused on collecting taxes but also on supporting the business community.

In addition to these initiatives, Ango expressed his commitment to increasing voluntary tax compliance.

He believes this is the best way to ensure effective taxation.

Also, he thanked the ACCI for their visit and stressed the importance of forming a strong partnership to benefit both the revenue service and local businesses.

Chief Emeka Obegolu, the president of ACCI, congratulated Ango on his new role and discussed the chamber’s efforts to improve business conditions in the FCT.

He highlighted the ACCI’s focus on areas such as dispute resolution, trade promotion, workforce training, and policy advocacy.

These are all part of their goal to create a better business environment.

Looking forward, Obegolu invited more collaboration with FCT-IRS, especially for the upcoming Abuja International Trade Fair.

Also, he suggested that the FCT-IRS should join the chamber council to further strengthen their partnership.

Former ACCI President, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, supported these proposals.

He stressed the need to broaden the tax base and improve policies that would support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Together, the FCT-IRS and ACCI are committed to working closely to achieve shared goals.

Their focus will be on improving business opportunities and driving economic growth in the FCT.
