After nearly three decades in the spotlight, Afrobeats icon Peter Okoye, one half of the legendary P-Square duo, says fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
In a candid interview on Naija FM, the singer shared how the very success he once prayed for has now robbed him of everyday joys, like casually grabbing a hot roadside snack.

Reflecting on how he navigates life under constant scrutiny, Peter Okoye revealed that he now disguises himself in face masks, caps, and sunglasses just to blend in when he’s out in public.
Also, he jokingly described his “undercover mode” as the only way to enjoy a bit of peace.
“Back then, we prayed for fame,” he said.
“Now, I can’t even stop to buy hot akara on the road without creating a scene. I have to send someone, and by the time they get back, it’s cold!”
He nostalgically described how much he misses simple pleasures like akara and bread, calling it “ABC – the best burger ever”.
Though he’s grateful for his career, he admits that fame has taken a toll on his freedom.
