The European Union (EU) on Wednesday, has said that the killing of Lawan Andimi, Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the Christain Association of Nigeria, CAN, by Boko Haram insurgents was a ‘deliberate attempt to divide societies.’

Reacting via its Twitter handle @EUinNigeria, the body pledged support to President Muhammadu Buhari’s reaction to the killing of CAN Chairman.

Buhari had in reaction to the gruesome murder, expressed sorrow that the terrorists went on to kill the religious leader while giving signals at the same time of a willingness to set him free by releasing him to third parties.

He assured that the terrorists will continue to pay a heavy price for their actions and would comprehensively be defeated by our determined armed forces.

The EU tweet reads, “The EU supports President Buhari’s reaction to the killing of Christian Association of Nigeria member, Lawan Andimi. His execution as well as the numerous, inhuman killings of Muslims and Christians alike, are deliberate attempts to divide societies.

“The violence must end, and the millions affected by the insurgency given an opportunity to live in peace.”
