
Popular Nigerian actor and filmmaker, Daniel Etim-Effiong, has shared how a heartbreaking rejection from a former girlfriend ultimately led him to the love of his life, his wife, Toyosi.
Speaking in a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Etim-Effiong revealed that he was ready for marriage at a point in his life but was turned down by his then-girlfriend, who had other plans.
According to him, the woman declined his proposal because she was planning to pursue graduate studies in the United States
Also, she wasn’t ready to settle down.
“I told her I was ready to get married, but she said she wasn’t,” he said.
“She had plans to go for graduate school in the US and didn’t want to be tied down. I was disappointed because I believed we could build something together.”
Shortly after the rejection, Etim-Effiong returned to Nigeria to work on a project where Toyosi was the production manager.
The actor said they had been in contact prior to the project, but meeting in person sparked a deeper connection.
It also happened to be Toyosi’s first professional job in Nigeria after returning from New York.
“I had a long conversation with her, and I told her I really wanted to get married,” he shared. “And she said, ‘Let’s do it.’”

Today, the couple is happily married, and Etim-Effiong reflects on the experience as a divine redirection , a heartbreak that ultimately brought him to his true partner.
