Chelsea star, Mason Mount has singled out Newcastle United players for praise following his side’s 1-0 defeat against the Magpies in the Premier League at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Mount gave credit to Newcastle for their unbelievable ability to defend the whole game, making blocks and winning tackles against Chelsea.
The midfielder also urged Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard to look at what ways the Blues can add to their game in order to score goals against their opponents.
Chelsea wasted the chance against the host to go clear in fourth place, as they lost thanks to Isaac Hayden’s late goal.
It was another frustrating afternoon for Lampard’s men, who had 70 per cent of the ball and 19 attempts but could not score.
“It’s a tough one to take,” Mason told Chelsea’s official website. “Even a draw we would have been disappointed with. We had a lot of possession, we created a lot of chances, but when we score no goals we can’t say anything.
“They did unbelievable to defend the whole game, making blocks, winning tackles, and in football anything can happen. They then go to the other end of the pitch late on and score.”
Mount added: “We had a lot of possession. They had a lot of bodies behind the ball. We put crosses in, they defended it, so we need to look at what ways we can maybe add to our game to score these goals.
“It was hard for us to get the ball in the areas we want and create chances. Credit to them that they defended so well, I thought we gave it our all and worked hard throughout the game, but in football, anything can happen.”
Chelsea will now face Arsenal on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge in their next Premier League fixture.
