Eniola Mariam Bolaji made history as the first African athlete to win a medal in Para-Badminton, securing a bronze medal for Nigeria in the women’s Singles SL3 event.

The 18-year-old triumphed over Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyna in straight sets, 2-0 (21-9, 21-9), to claim Nigeria’s first Paralympic medal in Paris on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Although Bolaji aimed for gold, she fell short in the semi-final on Sunday, September 1, 2024, losing 2-0 (16-21, 17-21) to China’s Zuxian Xiao.

However, she bounced back to secure the bronze on Monday, September 2.

Bolaji entered the Paris Paralympics as one of the favorites, having earned victories in previous tournaments in Egypt and Spain.
