There seems to be a fresh concern for the Nation, as the leaders of the EndSARS protest stop the Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, from his speech, demanding the presence of the Inspector General of Police.

Thousands of Nigerians were seen at the Police headquarters protesting against the injustice and hardship caused by the operatives of SARS in the country.

Scores of protesters led by the trio of Omoyele Sowore, former Presidential Candidate, Hajia Aisha Yusufu of the BBOG, and Deji Adeyanju on Thursday besieged the entrance of Force headquarters in Abuja demanding the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Carrying several placards calling for an end to SARS as a result of atrocities the Special Police squad has visited on Nigerians leading to the death of thousands of innocent persons, the protesters said SARS is anti-people.

Some of the placards read, EndSARSNow, WeDontNeedSARS, Buhari has failed.

Shouting ‘EndSARS,’ while paralyzing vehicular traffic on the Shehu Shagari road, the protesters poured fresh blood on the road (which was later discovered to be blood of Rams), to illustrate the killings and bloodshed by SARS operatives.

They demanded to know what the IGP has done about many SARS operatives who have been indicted for rights violations, including extra-judicial killings, extortion, illegal detention and other misconduct.

Speaking with Police personnel who stopped them from going into Force headquarters, Sowore told the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aremu that they are not happy they were prevented from seeing IGP Mohammed Adamu.

“We are going but will come back to see the IGP and when we come back, maybe tomorrow or any other day, we will not leave until the IGP attends personally to us. And if he fails to attend to us, we will call for the removal of the IGP”, he said.

He said they (protesters) “will go back and consult with other members who are also protesting in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Benin adding that the protest is a nationwide thing. We should not take into our hands the decision making. There is no time table for ending oppression.

Also speaking, Aisha Yusufu said the IGP should be made to understand that there is no time limit for the agitation to end SARS adding, “We came to see the IGP. We are not looking for trouble. We need to see him to know the specifics of what the Police are doing about SARS. They have brutalized and killed thousands of Nigerians and we are saying enough of the killings and brutalization.

“Tell your IG that he should not provoke us. Citizens are angry. Tell your people that there was a time in this country when Policemen were afraid to wear uniform in public. And the way you are pushing the citizens, it is happening.

“You saw what happened in computer village in Lagos, where citizens got angry and they went after the SARS there. We that are coming here and we are telling you we want to see the IG; we are not looking for jobs from him. We are not looking for patronage; we are not looking for food as he hasn’t being doing his job. We are only telling him to do his job.

“So as we leave today, tell your IG that he should not provoke us, he should not push us to the wall. We are angry already; we are dying in our country. We are not living in Nigeria, we are all dead people who are breathing in oxygen and taking out carbon dioxide.

“And so when we come back, we need to see specifics. From 2007 till date over six times, there has been pronouncements that SARS is ended but nothing happened. You change their name from SARS to FSARS and they became worse. So please, don’t push the people. We are here because we are law abiding. Those who are not law abiding, they have been killing police and nothing happened, nothing has been done to them.

“Like I will always remind you, we are in this together. We are suffering together; we are dying together and most of you (policemen), when you retire from the force, you end up in Abuja media houses begging journalists to speak for you. Retirement is a few years away. So let’s fix a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. Where they will give you jobs at NNPC to your children too, not just NPower. So like Sowore said, there is going to be consultations and we are going to be back here.

“Today you are seeing us quiet. We are being law abiding. Next time, we will seat down here and say anything that will happen, let it happen”.
