#EndSARS: Fast track justice for Lekki shooting victims, YYA urges Buhari

The Yoruba Youths Assembly (YYA), on Monday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure speedy dispensation of justice to #EndSARS protests victims at the alleged Lekki Toll Gate shooting by the Army to calm frayed nerves.

Mr Olarinde Thomas, President of YYA, an umbrella body of 38 affiliates of Yoruba youth groups globally, in a joint statement appealed to Buhari to fast track investigations and prosecution of culpable soldiers.

Thomas condemned the ‘attacks’ unleashed on the youths by the army personnel during their peaceful protest”.

He appealed to President Buhari to “fish out” soldiers involved in the Lekki toll gate shootings within two weeks to serve justice and calm tempers .

“As youths, we are demanding for a better Nigeria and good security architecture across the country. We are also demanding for good welfare for the citizens,”he said.

He urged youths to continue with the legitimate agitations demanding their rights for a better future, and country, while appealing to President Buhari to adopt more democratic measures in handling issues.

He condemned the activities of hoodlums who hijacked the protests attacking people and looting properties, “hiding under the cover of the #EndSARS protests”.

He sympatised with National leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu for the damages hoodlums inflicted on his Nation newspaper and Television Continental (TVC).

Thomas also extended sympathy to all Nigerians that lost loved ones and property to the protest and hoodlums attacks.

He called on Tinubu to lead the campaign for restructuring Nigeria to ensure quick growth and development of the nation.

“We want him to use his exemplary leadership style to preach the gospel of restructuring of Nigeria among all the major stakeholders, because without restructuring we won’t allow any election in South West in 2023.

“It is only restructuring that will allow peace in the country and create better life for the citizens,” he said.

The statement was jointly signed by Mr Nathaniel Oduyemi, YYA Publicity Secretary and Mr Oso Ayodeji, the General Secretary.
