Emefiele’s duplexes, once symbols of alleged corruption and luxury, are set to find new purpose under the Federal Government’s housing scheme.
Emefiele’s Seized Duplexes
Recovered in a landmark anti-graft operation, the 753-unit estate will soon open its doors to low and middle-income Nigerians—signalling a bold shift from scandal to social justice in the nation’s fight for affordable housing.
Massive Asset Recovery
In December 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered the estate, which contains 753 housing units spread across 150,000 square metres.
EFCC officials declared it the largest single asset recovery since the agency’s inception in 2003.
Justice of the FCT High Court, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie, issued the final forfeiture order on December 2, 2024, after EFCC investigators connected the property to Emefiele.
Legal Challenge Dismissed
In April 2025, Emefiele challenged the forfeiture, accusing the EFCC of concealing the proceedings despite his ongoing interactions with the agency.
However, the court swiftly dismissed his application.
Government Takes Control
On May 20, 2025, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede formally handed the estate over to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.

In line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the ministry pledged to allocate the homes fairly via an online platform: renewedhopehomes.fmhud.gov.ng.
Assessment And Allocation Plan
According to Director of Press at the ministry, Badamasi Haiba, engineers will first assess the estate’s structural integrity.
Then, officials will profile the units and prepare them for sale.
Haiba added that the ministry will offer flexible payment options such as mortgages, instalments, and rent-to-own schemes.
Transparent Sales Process
To dispel fears of political favouritism, Haiba stressed that the digital portal removes human interference.
Any Nigerian can select a unit, choose a payment plan, and receive an offer—all from home.
From Scandal To Solution
What was once a symbol of elite excess is now set to become a model of transparency and opportunity.
