El Salvador President Deploys 10,000 Troops To Battle Gang

President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador has deployed 10,000 troops to surround the city of Soyapango to battle gang activities.

The President announced the blocking of all roads leading to the city and special forces have been searching houses to apprehend gang members.

Soyapango city is one of the largest in the country with a population of about 290,000 people.

However, the city is known as a hub for gang activities which the president is trying to fight by having officers stop everyone attempting to leave the city and checking the identity papers of everyone.

The president wrote on Twitter, “As of this moment, the municipality of Soyapango is totally surrounded.

“Extraction teams from the police and the army are tasked with extricating all the gang members still there one by one.”

The president assured the ordinary people to not fear as the crackdown being carried out is against criminals not honest citizens.
