Drake has called on California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant a pardon to fellow Canadian artiste Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Taking to Instagram, Drake shared a link to a Change.org petition titled “Correct a Deep Injustice,” alongside the caption, “@torylanez come home soon.”
The petition, which had attracted over 250,000 signatures at the time of reporting, claims Lanez’s 2023 conviction lacked sufficient physical evidence and alleges the justice system unfairly targeted him.
It also calls for the removal of what it describes as “politically motivated sentencing enhancements.”
Tory Lanez, who was found guilty of firing a gun that injured Megan Thee Stallion in the foot after an argument in a vehicle following a party in Hollywood Hills, is currently serving a prison sentence.
The campaign for a pardon has gained renewed attention following reports that Lanez was stabbed 14 times by another inmate who is serving time for murder.
There has been no official response from Governor Newsom’s office regarding the petition.
