Doyin Okupe: How Peter Obi Was Used To Divide Atiku’s Vote In 2023

Doyin Okupe, a former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organization in the 2023 general election, has given Nigerians something to talk about, and trust Nigerians, they are going to talk about it until there is nothing else to say.

As we speak, Doyin Okupe is trending on virtually every social media platform as Nigerians drag the erstwhile presidential aide following his controversial interview on Channels TV.

A video from that interview captured the moment Doyin okupe claimed that President Bola Tinubu was the best candidate to run for the presidency in 2023.

According to Okupe, hindsight has made him realise that Tinubu is the best man for the job.

Doyin Okupe’s Statement 

Doyin Okupe argued that in terms of capability, commitment and knowledge, Tinubu checks all the boxes.

In his words: “Let me tell you, of all the people that actually ran for President in 2023, by the benefit of hindsight, Bola Tinubu is the best.
I have seen Peter Obi, I have been with Atiku Abubakar, I also knew Bola Tinubu many years ago.
I have not seen him in the last 7 to 8 years, that is not the point but he is the best in terms of capability, commitment and knowledge.”

The Betrayal 

Okupe was asked if his statement wasn’t a betrayal of Obi, whom he campaigned for in 2023, but he replied in the negative.

According to him, his support for Obi was borne out of their mutual belief that a Southerner should be president, which led to their exit from the PDP.

The controversial interview has left Doyin Okupe under heavy attack as many Nigerians, especially supporters of Peter Obi came for the 72-year-old politician.

It was in reaction to this that an X user made one interesting observation.

Peter Obi: The Pawn In The Game

The user, with the handle @de_generalnoni observed that Peter Obi was just used as a pawn in the game of chess in the last election.

According to him, this game was aimed at dividing the votes of the then Peoples Democratic Paty candidate, Atiku.

The user suspects that Obi might be in the know.

He wrote: “After watching Doyin Okupe video I can tell you for free… Peter Obi was used to divide Atiku’s vote! Peter Obi was the pawn in the chess of last election! It was all planned and I am sure Obi might be aware…”
