Donatella Versace has officially stepped down as Versace’s creative director after nearly three decades, marking the end of a major era in fashion. She will now serve as the brand’s global ambassador.

The 69-year-old designer took over Versace in 1997 after the murder of her brother, Gianni. Since then, she has played a key role in shaping the brand’s modern identity while keeping its signature bold and glamorous style.

Announcing her departure on Instagram, Donatella revealed that Dario Vitale will take over as Chief Creative Officer from 1st April.

“Championing the next generation of designers has always been important to me. I am thrilled that Dario Vitale will be joining us and excited to see Versace through new eyes,” she wrote. She also thanked her design team and all Versace employees for their dedication over the years.

Reflecting on her journey, Donatella said, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity.”

She assured fans that she will remain closely connected to the brand in her new role as Chief Brand Ambassador. “Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart,” she added.

With over 12 million Instagram followers, Donatella is the most-followed fashion designer on social media. In another post on 13th March, she paid tribute to Gianni, writing, “I hope I’ve made you proud so far.”
