Mbappe collided with opposing defender Kevin Danso which left the French skipper with a fractured nose.

He was rushed to the hospital right after the game, however, the France Football Federation later claimed that surgery wouldn’t be necessary.

Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps has now provided an update on the condition of the 25-year-old, who will undergo more tests on Wednesday.

Deschamps also insisted that Mbappe will have to go under the knife, but his surgery may be pushed back until after the tournament is over.

“This Wednesday there will be more tests to see his evolution.

“It was a major shock.

“The medical staff did everything necessary to reduce it as much as possible, after the tests.

“Even if there is not surgery immediately, he will have to do it after the tournament. This morning he was already a little better, so we will see. We will follow it closely every day.”

RTL France reported on Tuesday that the star attacker is likely to remain sidelined for at least 15 days which means that he could be absent for France until the quarter-final stage.

However, it has also been reported that Mbappe will be fitted with a custom mask to protect his nose, and he has not yet been officially ruled out of France’s next group game against the Netherlands on Friday.
