Veteran Nigerian Afrobeats icon, D’banj, has unveiled plans for a highly anticipated joint tour alongside fellow music heavyweights 2Baba and Timaya.
Speaking during a recent sit-down with Adesope Live in London, the “Oliver Twist” crooner reflected on the remarkable growth of Afrobeats
Also, he credited the genre’s meteoric rise not only to the artistes and industry players behind the scenes but also to the unwavering support of the African diaspora.
“In my chat with Timaya recently, he said, ‘Banger, it’s enough entrepreneurship for now—it’s time to hit the stage again,’ and I agreed,” D’banj revealed.
“2Baba echoed the same sentiment. We’re working on taking our music on a joint tour. Between us—me, 2Baba, and Timaya—we have decades of hits. The industry is big enough now for all of us to thrive, and the audience is ready.”
He also teased a new single with 2Baba entitled “Feeling Good”
“That might even be the tour theme—‘Thank You’—to show appreciation for the journey so far,” he added.
Reflecting on Afrobeats’ transformation, D’banj recalled the early days when Nigerian identity wasn’t celebrated in the UK:
“Back then, we wanted to be Jamaicans because that was what was accepted. Today, African culture is the wave. There’s barely a UK film or show now without our music. That says a lot about how far we’ve come.”
