Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Davido, says he has never met Nicki Minaj in person, despite working with the American rapper on two songs.
He shared this surprising revelation during a recent appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast.
He discussed how their collaborations came about.
“You know the crazy thing? I have never met her [Nicki Minaj]. It’s crazy. We speak on the phone all the time. The first time we connected was through DM,” Davido disclosed.
Recalling their initial interaction, he explained:
“I noticed she was following me, so I sent her a message. When I woke up the next morning, I saw her reply. I was shocked. I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested. I think it was 2019 or 2020. I sent her the record, and within two days, she sent me her verse.”
Their collaboration led to the 2020 hit “Holy Ground,”
However, they had plans to shoot a music video in Los Angeles, but they have not been able to proceed due to Nicki Minaj’s pregnancy at the time.
Davido also revealed that their professional relationship has remained strong over the years.
“She reached out to me again last year with another record for ‘Pink 3,’ I think it was her anniversary album. She’s always been supportive. She’s amazing.”
